And it Begins

So training begins. I started some strength excercises and went for a run last week. And Boy I got a lot of work to do! I also need to fix my tire on my bike, oh yea and that swimming pool. LOL

It is always a SLOW start (just saying).

Yesterday, I hosted a Bone Marrow Registry Drive at the BedStuy YMCA in Brooklyn and I thought wow I actuallly miss the YMCA and team trainings at the pool. A group of my teammates started a triathlon club so I am hoping some group practices start soon.
(BTW we registered 50 people to the National Bone Marrow Registry... so exciting)

So this week will be a big week beginning that 6 day a week training.

I will let you know how it goes.

My First Solo Bike Ride

So today I did 30 miles on my own. No teammates, no TNT coached ride just me and a map from Map my Ride.
I was suppose to stay in North Jersey last night to meet a Elliot (a TNT friend and really sweet guy) for a GW ride this morning. The weather wasn't looking good last night and in had this horrible stomach pain. Due to a long and hardcore work week I was exhausted and needed to sleep in. In the meantime, Elliot and I thought this morning will be a trainer ride.
I woke up with the same excruciating stomach pain, and decided I stay local.

Now I knew I needed to ride since I am doing the Chicago Tri. Originally I was planning to do the Poconos ride with some teammates but those plans fell through. and not for nothing I am the slow guy in the bunch so I could do without the pressure. I will be under pressure September 17th for the Tour de Cure. I asked 8 of my teammates to ride with me - what was I thinking!? They are all super fast....I digress.

Anyway, I got it together and decided to do this ride I found my house. It was a nice ride with beautiful scenery with some exceptions. So during my ride I see a sign that says "US get out of the United Nations" then 10 minutes later I see a group of people surrounding a motorcyclist lying on ground propped up on some blankets. A woman his holding his hand, another man is on the phone and my stomach sinks. It is an unnerving scene and I realize I didn't have my RoadID on.."what was I thinking?!". I just prayed to God that he watch over the motorcyclist and hope he is alright. Shaken I realize i am doing this solo and need to be careful but still want to enjoy my ride. As I am saying this what do I see a dead dear Uggggh.

I did pass some live goats...that was good. Then rest of my ride was fine...I can hear Coaching Jeremy telling me to push it and get out my comfort zone. So I do...I was in the big ring for half the ride. So I am proud and surprised I did 30 miles on my own....next 60.

Bad Weekend

I accomplished nothing this weekend. Slept through my alarm for a Bike Ride this Saturday and no motivation to run this morning.
I guess I have to start over on Monday.

Still Hanging in There

I know it is been a long time but EVERYTHING is kicking my ASS!!! EVERYTHING!! Work, Home – I just feel like I am being put through the ringer. So there has been no time for blogging.
Anyway, believe or not I have been training and I started to go to a nutritionist because I am tired of working as twice as hard as everyone else and half as fast. I stated my Detox for two weeks I was doing good until Mother’s Day! I got back on track today (yes 4 days later…DON’T JUDGE ME lol)
Anyway, I went to swim practice with the TNT last week (J&J couldn’t make it to Montclair last Thursday) . It was a good practice. I am making progress I am actually completing work outs within the hour. Well practice ends and it is time to go home get to my locker and what happens?!?! I can’t open my lock…I know these numbers 12-22-10, 12-22-10, 22-21-10, 17-25-10. This goes on for another 30 minutes. All my teammates have taken showers. One of my teammates was like “You are so calm I would be freakin out” Well I was too tired to freak out and this is how my whole week was LOL. Anyway she offered to go to the front desk so I wouldn’t have to walk out in my suit. Another teammate (my coaches sister) hung out with me until I get showered and dressed. We went to eat and had a great conversation. It is so nice when people are kind. It does make you feel a little bit better at the end of the day.
The good thing is I am getting to know my new teammates better.
So Saturday I just ran 4 miles and then hung out with my girls at the SELF Work Out at Central Park. THAT WAS SO MUCH FUN. Of course my legs were silly putty which was not good for my Bike ride on Sunday. Good thing one of my new teammates was with us and she is a little slow.
Sunday (Mother’s Day) well I meet my Mentor King James and another teammate to attempt to do a nice ride. It was a beautiful day. Along the ride we bumped into Abigail – It was so good to see her. Anyway, the new girl’s chain fell off and of course I was up and down 3 hills so I wasn’t turning around on the bike. Got to my car, King James had to go, and of course I didn’t have her number because it was blocked so I could call her back. LOL So after many emails and missed phone calls I finally got her and her phone number. She got her chain back on and starting ride and got lost. Ended up some school it was like chasing a target. In the end for her back to homebase and I was on my way home to get ready for dinner.
Monday and Tuesday at work until 9pm so I missed swim practice and a bike ride. I was disappointed. I am actually looking forward to these practices. Wednesday I went to the running clinic LOL That was no clinic that was practice. Running around that freakin track. Please note I don’t like running. It is an necessary evil. Uggghh. I finished it though. At the end, when they said run at a slower pace – I was walking LOL. I can say this I am making progress. Now for most this is nothing but I did 5 miles in 1 hr and 12min and 4 miles in 55 min. I have been sticking to this run walk method. 2 min run 2 min walk. It does work and I actual smile at the end. My goal is to run better than an 1 hour and 40 minutes for 6 miles. And YES I am going to make that goal on June 26th and August 28th. I want to do 6 miles in an hour. That would be awesome. A girl can dream can’t she LOL.

Monday Swim Practice

Today was a good swim...Coach Chuck helped me with my stroke. And it was very helpful. Very helpful. I am really starting to understand Swimming is all about technique (and arm strength and core strength).
It was nice getting a hi five from Coach Chuck. Then I get reminded I got REV 3 and had a panic attack in the pool. LOL I got it together though.

Ready for swim on Thursday.

Until next time.

37 min 37 miles 37 min

So this past Saturday, I was invited to celebrate tow of my coaches birthday (Jilly Scott and Jav). This invitation consisted of meeting at the Montclair Y @8 am, swimming for 37 minutes, riding for 37 miles and run for 37 minutes. So you get the theme.
Of course I am running a little late and I get called out on e-mail. I am always the kid that gets picked on LOL. Anyway, 37 min translates to 37 laps for “Them.”
Definition of “Them” Coaches and Teammates that are training for the Half Iron and Iron Man. Definition “Not Me” LOL
Anyway, it seemed like a great idea, I wanted to try and by Friday night I couldn’t punk out. In January I made a resolution when I RSVP or make a commitment I can’t change my mind. It is helping me with organization, planning me time and learning to say no.
Anyway, as I jumped in the pool to join the Iron Men …my first lap OUT OF BREATH. I was trying to swim fast to not get in their way. My fast their slow. Tried another lap I was done by lap 3 LOL. It was about 12 people in one lane. Finally, another lane opened the fast people moved and I hung out with Lori, Jo-Anne and Allen. And while I was trying to punk out on doing more laps surprise surprise Allen made me finish my laps. I was like “Oh Sweat. I am scared of him” (it is the quiet ones you have to look out for LOL). Now keep in mind I am suppose to be doing the swim leg for Rev 3 Quassy.
So it is time to change and get ready for the bike ride. Now for some reason I am the only slow person in my team that shows up. I am looking for a couple of my teammates, even though I am slower than them I can keep up. Whateva, I am going to try to do this.
Now Jav picked this course. All I can say is that he better be glad it was his birthday. 2 minutes in the ride we are up a hill. DUDE!!! REALLY!! My legs are scream, I am exhausted from a swim and I though this would be a light ride so I can keep up with “THEM” by 75%. Now understand Carlos and Allen tried to be nice and hang out with me but let me tell you how it went down. Just as I thought I would get a little recovery there is this road called Bradford Avenue…..Dude after halfway up this MOUNTAIN (not hill) I just got off my bike. Which by the way is even worse cause you are still going up hill pushing a bike. Well Jav and Carlos ride back down the hill a little bit looking for me.
Finally I told them I got my directions I am good. (I knew this would be a long ride for me.) So they caught up with the pack. Usually I can see people in a distance but Jeremy, Lori, Jo-Anne, Jess, Jilly Scott, Allen, Jav,, Carlos were just a distane memory LOL. WELL I keep it going cause this is what is all about Start going up another I don’t know if was Stevens or Main Street or Francisco Avenue All I know I was aboutg to go up a second incline and my chain fell off.
“THANK YOU JESUS” I yelled out loud yes I did. I got off my bike put that chain back on and turned my ass around Hoping I will make back to the Y before THEM pass ME LOL. Now let me tell you I was make all kinds of wrong turns mainly because I told myself this was not the right way I cause I say a hill. I just played myself. One road I went all the down and there was a baseball game going on at the bottom of the hill. Well too many people watching for me to walk it so I HAD to ride up that hill LOL OOC.
Finally got back to the Y and then I decide I should go for the run because that is what you are suppose to do. I was so tired that 37 minutes took 1 hour LOL. I was trying to complete 3 miles but after 1.5 miles I had to sent on a bench at the park to take a break my body was tired, my legs were in pain.
And of course THEM got back by them time I got done running….Reality Check…I GOT A LOT of WORK to DO…
When Lori and Jess saw me they were like “You Alright?” LOL I just told them they are insane lol. Finally, I joined THEM at Just Jakes for food, drinks and fun (I was excited to see my Coach Amy!)
And even though my body did appreciate Saturday’s events I am glad I tried. I truly enjoy my TNT family. I got great advice that day and they all inspire me to become a better athlete, better person. Each of THEM teaches me something different and I am so grateful for that. I may not be an IRON MAN but I hang out with THEM LOL!
